In China’s winding road to industrialization, the bus industry has been ahead of the automobile industry, ” says Tang Yuxiang, president of Yutong.
According to statistics released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), China exported 83,900 units of buses in total in 2014, up by 28.05% year on year. Also, the growth rate last year is 18.55 percentage points higher than that of the previous year. In the same year, Chinese buses made their way to 155 countries and regions across the globe, rising from 144 countries and regions in the year before. Given the statistics above, China has become the world’s largest bus manufacturing base.

In the past twenty-plus years, Yutong has witnessed enormous improvements in its overall research & development (R&D) capacity. Each year, the bus maker allots no less than 3% of its sales income to the R&D of new buses. In doing so, the company quickly moves on the sound track of development. In the meantime, its strengthened overall R&D capacity further helps Yutong win the hearts of its customers. Higher market recognition and continued rising sales, in return, contribute to the company’s new round of technological innovation.
While making every effort to strengthen its own competitiveness, Yutong has been taking the lead in China’s bus industry. The engine thermal management technology, solely owned by Yutong, helps the bus cut fuel consumption by 5% to 10% every 100 kilometers. Moreover, it greatly lowers the noises inside and outside buses and improves the life expectancies of the engine, fan bearings, and transmission belts.
On April 17, Yutong launched its promotional campaign for its Full Electric Bus Integrated Solutions in Zhengzhou. Zhu Guanghai, Deputy Director of National Electric Bus Control & Safety Engineering Research Center and Deputy Director of Yutong New Energy Bus Technical Department, points out that Yutong full electric buses are equipped with annular frame member structure, which are much less susceptible to collision impacts. Yutong E7, in particular, boasts a rollover angle of 45 degrees, way above the national standard of 28 degrees. The protection level of E7 has also reached IP67. In addition, it is able to keep smooth operation in deeper waters compared with other normal buses. Yutong also provides five-year warranty and eight-year extended warranty of its batteries. Given all these strengths mentioned above, Yutong full electric buses are now ready for large-scale marketization, according to Zhu Guanghai. In November 2014, National Electric Bus Control & Safety Engineering Research Center started operation in Yutong.

As of the end of 2014, Yutong had successfully applied for 260 patents in new energy bus field. Among them, 82 are invention patents and 33 are corporate standards and technical regulations. The company had also been in charge of over ten projects which belonged to National Twelfth-Five Year Plan 863 Initiative and Technological Pillar Programs. In the meantime, Yutong sold 13,798 units of buses in 99 cities across China, including 2,102 units of full electric buses, 5,181 units of hybrid buses and 6,515 units of plug-in hybrid buses.
In recent years, Yutong buses have made their way to over 120 countries and regions, including Cuba, Venezuela, Russia, Iran and Saudi Arabia. From Latin America to Asia-Pacific, Yutong buses can be seen everywhere.
Nowadays, Yutong boasts a very solid presence in Cuba and Venezuela. “The big order never comes easily. In the very beginning, we only had six buses operating in Cuba. At this point, the Cuban government was facing heaving pressure from the transport and energy sectors for transformation. Thus, it tried to seek new energy resource. Thanks to the smooth operation and high energy efficiency of our buses, the Cuban government has developed the strongest liking for our brand. We also sent over twenty technical staff there to ensure the smooth operation of bus fleet. Now, every bus operator in Cuba has a pretty sizable Yutong bus fleet,” says Wang Feng, Managing Director of Yutong Overseas Marketing Department.
